Zoho Docs



Thursday @ 6AM PST, we are announcing the availability of Zoho Docs (http://docs.zoho.com) at the Office 2.0 Conference.

Below are the details of the application. This video gives you a quick intro.



This application brings together documents from other apps into a single place providing a better way to manage your documents in Folders (with support for sub folders).





The application has a folder structure on the left and lists the documents on the right. All documents from Zoho Writer, Sheet and Show are listed by default. These documents can then be arranged into folders (and sub-folders). Folders can be easily arranged by dragging and dropping them on the left side. Documents can also be dragged into the folders inside the application.





Apart from documents, spreadsheets and presentations, we also allow users upload all file types. To make the upload process simple, we do allow ZIP file upload. Once zip files are uploaded, users can simply unzip the files in Zoho Docs. This will unzip all files retaining the folder structure.




One of the unique functionality in Zoho Docs is the ability to view the documents, spreadsheets and presentations right within the application. These document types are opened as a tab within the application in view-mode. If the user chooses to edit the document, the document is opened in a new window in appropriate zoho apps.





The app also supports right click on documents where we have other options like Renaming, Tagging, Moving Sharing documents etc.





Zoho Docs also supports Group Sharing. If you have groups created, you can share the documents to your existing groups. All documents shared to groups can also be viewed in Zoho Docs.






Zoho Docs also has views section that groups the documents by type across all folders. Here you can view 'All files' from all folders, Recent Documents, Documents from Zoho Writer, Spreadsheets from Zoho Sheet, Presentations from Zoho Show, Pictures and other file types.


Zoho Chat is also integrated right into Zoho Docs. You can now chat with all your Zoho Contacts inside Zoho Docs.




As you notice, you'll see multiple Zoho Services integrated well to form the Zoho Docs application. As you see, we have documents from Zoho Writer, Spreadsheets from Zoho Sheet, Presentations from Zoho Show, Groups information from Zoho Accounts, Chat from Zoho Chat - all integrated into Zoho Docs. The plan is to provide you the information where you need it rather than having to hunt for information inside applications.




Zoho Docs is also integrated into Zoho Business as the 'Documents' application on the left.

Zoho Docs is focused on aggregating all personal documents in Zoho while Zoho Share (released recently) focuses on aggregating public documents.
