Colebrook is a small town nestled at the confluence of the Connecticut and Mohawk Rivers. It is shadowed by Monadnock Mountain on the west, surrounded by the rugged mountains of Dixville Notch on the east, extensive farmland and forests on the north bordered by Canada.
The first permanent residents of Colebrook began to arrive in the 1780\'s, with the number having grown to 30 by the time of its charter in 1796. Originally a farming community, members sustained themselves by growing or making what was needed. It was a hard life, but these people established a deep-rooted way of life that lasted over 200 years.
Colebrook experienced three great fires that destroyed many of the original structures along its main street. There were also two major floods. However through it all, the residents rose to the challenge. Buildings were rebuilt and a close sense of community was born from these tragedies.
During the 1950\'s life began to change. Farmers began to sell their lands and a real estate boom ensued. Tourism became a big focus and both the town and the business community had to change to accommodate this.
Colebrook now has a variety of small shops that offer quality service with a personal touch. You don’t have to look far to find a friendly person to answer your questions. The sense of a caring community is the fabric of Colebrook and we invite you to be a part of it.
