Journal Entry Guidelines

 

Journal Entries may count as subject area as well as responsibility grade.  Journal entries may include: answering essential questions, reflections, summary on documentary and/or historical videos. Journals may be assigned as class work and/or homework and may be completed individual, in pairs depending on instructions.  They may vary in length from one paragraph to five. For guidance using the types of writing refer to pages xxiv and xxxv in your textbook.

 

Journal# 1: Why study history?  Brainstorm in class and complete as homework.  Type of writing: three persuasive paragraphs of 4-6 sentences. Journal must be neatly handwritten or typed in double space or skipping a line. Focus on 3 ideas and organize (introduction, support and conclusion). Using rubric student will assess Journals 1 and 2 refer to rubric. Focus on appreciations and no put downs

 

Journal #2: What can we learn from the past? To be done in class in the following options:

·        Writing: In one paragraph 4-6 sentences in expository form focusing on fluency.

·        Visual: Done with two visuals with captions

·        Musical: Selection of two songs with explanation.

 

Journal #3:  To be done as a class inclusion activity milling to music.  Each question must include 2-3 statements under each question.  Focus on attentive listening.

  1. How does where influence how I live?

Journal #4 To be done with different partner. Using dialogue, personification: If a map or globe could speak (2 sentences) for each. Focus on voice and mutual respect.
