Carol Middle School Ms. Mary Dolly Gomez 7th Grade Science
Welcome to 7th Grade Science!
My name is Mary Dolly Gomez and I will be your son/daughter’s Science teacher this school year .I am excited to be a member of the team of educators that will be teaching 7th grade. As part of our goals, we as a team, will make this learning experience one that gives priority to your son’s/daughter’s well being and social-academic development. I will take in consideration every individual need and work my personal best to make this a successful year. Science is an area that requires inquiry and observation. It is essential that they become critical thinkers .As a priority in our program, we will help them develop and apply knowledge to relate scientific principles to every day life.

Grading Policy: This year the MS grading system has changed. It will be based on Subject area skills, Responsibility and Conduct. What is counted for subject area skills? Tests and Quizzes Projects Essays and Reports Presentations Lab activities Homework that is graded for content
What is accounted for Responsibility?
Students are expected to turn in assigned work in a timely and thorough manner and arrive to classes on time. Learning to do so is an important step in the development of the levels of independence and responsibility we hope to foster in all of our students. The following grading scale will be used by all MS teachers in assessing responsibility. Assignment submitted on time
A- Assignment submitted on time. All parts of assignment are completed, organized and neatly presented. B- Student handed in assignment on time. All parts are completed and all work is reasonably neat and organized. C-Assignment meets either of following:
Assignment submitted late or on time
D- Assignment meets either of 2 criteria · Assignment submitted sometime within one cycle of due date. It is neat and organized. · Assignment submitted on time but very incomplete and reflects low standard of neatness and organization. F-The assignment meets either of following 2 criteria · Assignment is submitted sometime within one cycle of due date but is incomplete, not well organized or neat. · Assignment submitted on time but student has only submitted a small portion and is poor in terms of neatness and organization. 0-Assignment is submitted within 7 school days of due date.
Tardiness A grade for punctuality wil be entered for each class once/quarter Teachers will assign a point value of 20% of responsibility grade The following scale is used for punctuality: 0-2 tardies A 3-4 tardies B 5-6 tardies C 7-8 tardies D 9+ tardies F
Classroom Conduct The respectful and considerate treatment of others is an important component of tribes program and taken in consideration for evaluation too. To evaluate student conduct, the following guidelines are used:
5/5 Student exceeds standard. The student is always respectful and considerate to others. 4/5 Student meets the standard. The student is almost always respectful and considerate to others. 3/5 Student is approaching the standard. The student is generally respectful and considerate to others. 2/5 Student is below standards. The student is sometimes respectful and considerate. 1/5 Student is below standards. The student is rarely respectful and considerate to others. Students who receive a 1 or 2 conduct in 3 or more classes in one semester will be reviewed for behavior probation.
Enrichment times Tuesday through Thursday from 2:15-2:45 pm
Notebook Policy Use a 5 subject notebook to organize class sections as follows: Section 1 Journal Section 2 Vocabulary Section 3 Lab /Projects Section 4 Classwork Section 5 Homework
Seating arrangements Students will be seated as a triad to encourage inclusion and team work! Every other cycle the triads will be switched. Students work cooperatively during lab activities, reviews, projects and class activities.
