Journalism/Interactive Media Studies

 

MIAMI UNIVERSITY (OHIO) Innovative interdisciplinary programs in Journalism and Interactive Media Studies seekscandidates for a joint appointment, full time tenure-track position at the rank of assistant or associateprofessor, beginning August 2008. Applicants must hold Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree(or beA.B.D. with completion by Fall 2008). Candidates for this position must have an established interest in computationalmedia, including online content creation/critique, software application and tools development, and/or interest in new media pedagogy and theory. The successful candidate will help Journalism and IMS in course and program development and other initiatives in the areas of online journalism and digital media. Candidates should have the ability to plan and executive curricular initiatives in both Journalism and IMS, and possess the skills to work with students in an interdisciplinary context. Additionally, candidates are expected to produce a high-level of innovative scholarship and/or creative activity and attain significant extramural support.  For appointment to rank of associate, candidate should have exceptional journalism and/or related professional experience or established writing/scholarly record.

Qualification requirements include a Ph.D. in journalism, mass Communication, digital or new media or related discipline, or other appropriate terminal degree (e.g., M.F.A.); expertise in coding literacy and digital technology, theory and practice; and ability to build – or continue building -- a vital scholarly and/or creative record. Additionally, professional experience in journalism and/or digital media is preferred.
