The North Shelby Baptist Church believes...that there is one true God. We believe that God created all things and that we are responsible to Him. We believe that, though God is one, He expresses and reveals Himself as a Trinity, three-in-one, as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that every person has sinned, that we have chosen to live independent of and contrary to the will of God in various ways. Though we have sinned against Him, the eternal God came to this world as Jesus Christ, born in a stable in Bethlehem, Israel, as the Son of a virgin, to be the Savior of the world. The New Testament Gospels tell us about His life, His miracles, and His teachings. He never sinned. He died for the sins of all humanity, as our Substitute Sacrifice, taking our penalty for sin. He was buried and rose again the third day, the first "Easter" Sunday. He went back up into Heaven and sent the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him. When any person is sorry for his/her sins, and want to live in God\'s will, and believes that God sent Jesus to die and then raised Him from the dead, then God forgives the sins, counting Jesus\' death as the price paid for them. Such an experience of repenting and believing is being "born again," being "saved." The Holy Spirit enters the repentant believer, never to leave and always seeking to lead him/her in the understanding of the Bible and the application of its teaching to life. We believe that life is to be lived for the glory of God. We are to worship, to learn and to love others and to help them become followers of Jesus. We believe that the Lord loves all people, all races, nationalities, and languages. We believe in praying for, giving, and going as missionaries. We believe that Jesus\' promises of His return are true. Though we do not know when, we believe in the second coming of Jesus. |
