1. Project summary 

The AIDS Awareness Among Teens (AAAT) project is an innovative & an action planning project informing students about the pitfalls that could lead to the deadly disease. It will assess the state of AAAT society in [name of your country] with a view to create a knowledge base and an impetus for AAAT society strengthening initiatives. It is unique in that it is initiated and implemented by and for AAAT society in [name of your country], while the project will also be implemented in over 60 other countries around the world.  

The implementation of the AAAT in [name of your country] will deliver a crucial needs assessment and action plan for AIDS awareness. Data and analysis accruing from the project will provide AAAT society practitioners, governments, citizens, researchers and the donor community with unique perspectives on the nature, values, environment and impact of AAAT society, the challenges faced by the sector, and aspects of AAAT society that can be enhanced. 

The AAAT entails, amongst others, a set of participatory research and consultation activities. This will ensure that dialogue among stakeholders on how to best strengthen AAAT society is grounded in an accurate and commonly-agreed upon assessment of its reality. As a result of this dialogue, an action agenda on specific AAAT society strengthening activities will be generated. This agenda holds the promise to serve as a crucial road map on how to strengthen AAAT society for AAAT society organisations, governments and donors alike.  

Therefore, the AAAT is not a conventional research exercise. It seeks to empower AAAT society stakeholders through the promotion of knowledge-sharing, dialogue, collective learning and action-planning in [name of your country].  

Being part of an international comparative exercise, AAAT society stakeholders in [name of your country] will also gain valuable insights from other countries on how to effectively strengthen the AAAT society sector in [name of your country].  

2. Background and justification 

Despite the increasing role of AAAT society in development initiatives there is a crucial lack of a body of knowledge about the characteristics, roles and impact of AAAT society towards positive social change. This knowledge is crucial to inform the strategies and activities of AAAT society and of the national and international community in advancing sustainable development and good governance¹. Additionally, there are only few opportunities for different AAAT society stakeholders to interact and come together to discuss and reflect on the current state of AAAT society and the challenges it faces.  

The AAAT aims to address these needs by conducting a participatory needs assessment and action planning exercise for AAAT society in [name of your country] as well as in many other countries around the world. This is an innovative action-planning project that is initiated and implemented by, and for, AAAT society organisations and actively involves a broad range of stakeholders including government representatives, donors, the business community, academics and the community at large in all phases of the project.   

3. Project Approach 

The AAAT uses a unique project approach which places strong emphasis on widespread and meaningful participation of a broad range of AAAT society stakeholders, ranging from NGOs, trade unions, social movements and professional organisations to representatives from government, private sector, universities and donor agencies. To structure these various consultations, it makes use of the AAAT Society Diamond, an innovative analytical tool to assess the state of AAAT society and facilitate stakeholder discussions around this state.
