Extending conversations through social media

The evolving world of on-line social media offers new opportunities to develop conversations with a wide range of audiences in order to build relationships and share information. There is a growing range of social media applications available on-line, covering forums, blogs, wikis and videoblogging. Emerging applications such as Twitter open new ways of connecting with people. The range and potential uses of these technologies can be overwhelming to first-time users.

Deirdré Straughan has been working with on-line applications since 1982 - starting in the days of Compuserve and usenet. She currently works as Community Strategist and Videoblogger for Sun Microsystems, out of Colorado.

Deirdré will be offering two seminars when she visits Wellington in July:

Creating Conversations through Social Media - Monday, 6 July, 1.00-2.00 pm.

Using Video to Enrich Conversations - Tuesday, 7 July, 1.00-2.00 pm.

These seminars will be followed by a hands-on workshop on Wednesday, 8 July, 1.00-3.30 pm. At the workshop, Deirdré will be available to address specific questions arising from the two seminars.

Attendance is free of charge. Please click here to RSVP by 1 July, so we have an idea of numbers.

The seminars and workshop are open to all attendees. They will be pitched towards the use of social media in non-profit, educational and government contexts. They will be held at the Ministry of Education, Level 3, St Paul's Square, Pipitea Street, Wellington.
