Zoho QuickRead 

The Zoho QuickRead is a Firefox/IE plug-in that allows users to open Microsoft Office & Open Office files (documents, spreadsheets & presentations) available on the web in the browser itself.

 

What does it do ?

 

The plug-in opens Office files available on the web in the browser itself. Document files (.doc, .odt, .exi) get opened using Zoho Writer, spreadsheet files (.xls, .sxc, .csv) in Zoho Sheet and presentation files (.ppt, .pps, .sxi) in Zoho Show. You can view & edit the files in the browser itself, save them to your desktop or post to your blog directly from there.

How to use it ?

 

Zoho QuickRead for Firefox:

 

    1. Download the Zoho QuickRead plug-in for Firefox

    2. Double-clicking on it will install it.

    3. Close and restart your Firefox browser
    4. Click on the 'Tools' menu. You will see the 'Zoho Options' menu item

    5. Click on Zoho Options and change the default settings for your preferences (if needed)
    6. For testing, visit a web page that has a link to some Microsoft Office files, eg., this page, which has got a list of free 
        Microsoft Excel files.
    7. Right click on a link to a xls file in the above page and you will get to see the 'Open in Zoho Sheet' option as in the 
        screenshot below.



 

Similarly, clicking on document links (.doc, .odt, .rtf, .sxw) will result in the menu item 'Open with Zoho Writer' and presentation links (.ppt, .pps, .sxi) 'Open with Zoho Show'. Clicking on the 'Open with Zoho ..' will open the said file in Zoho Sheet, Writer or Show appropriately.


Zoho QuickRead for Internet Explorer:

    1. Download the Zoho QuickRead plug-in (exe file) for Internet Explorer.
    2. Double-clicking on it will install it.
    3. Close and restart your Internet Explorer browser

    4. For testing, visit a web page that has a link to some Microsoft Office files, eg., this page, which has got a list of sample 
        Microsoft Word files.

    5. Right click on a link to a doc file in the above page and you will get to see the 'Open in Zoho Office Suite' option as in the 
        screenshot below



Clicking on the 'Open with Zoho Office Suite' will open up a new browser window with the document opened in the Zoho Writer editor.
